PROGRAM OVERVIEW

What is Moody’s Martial Arts?

Moody’s Martial Arts is a serious, traditional Korean martial arts training program rooted in Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo. The program is designed for students who want to train with purpose, discipline, and structure while developing both physical skill and mental strength.

Students learn all components of the art, technical, mental, philosophical, and practical, while working toward long-term goals such as black belt rank and optional participation in Taekwondo and open sport martial arts competition.

What style of martial arts do you teach?

We teach traditional Korean Taekwon-Do. Our curriculum includes:

  • Fundamental striking (kicks, punches, blocks)

  • Forms (hyung/poomsae)

  • Controlled sparring

  • Self-defense applications

  • Power and breaking techniques

  • Weapons fundamentals (age and rank appropriate)

  • Conditioning, flexibility, and coordination

This is not a fitness-only or cardio-kickboxing program. Students learn a complete martial art with historical depth and modern relevance.

Is Taekwondo just for beginners?

No. Taekwondo is a complete martial art and competitive sport practiced worldwide at recreational, competitive, and professional levels. Advanced practitioners continue refining speed, timing, power, strategy, and technical precision for decades. Black belt represents mastery of the basics, not the end of learning.

How is your program different from MMA or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Moody’s Martial Arts is a traditional martial arts program, not a mixed martial arts or full-contact fighting gym.

Our focus includes:

  • Technical precision and disciplined movement

  • Standing self-defense and distance management

  • Kicking, striking, blocking, and timing

  • Mental discipline, respect, and character development

  • Structured progression toward black belt

While MMA and BJJ emphasize full-contact sparring, ground fighting, and competitive fighting environments, our program emphasizes skill mastery, control, longevity, and personal development.

This program is ideal for students who want to:

  • Learn a complete traditional martial art

  • Train seriously without unnecessary injury risk

  • Build confidence, focus, and discipline

  • Pursue competition optionally, not as a requirement

Students seeking an MMA-style, cage-fighting, or heavy full-contact environment may be better served by a different type of program.

SCHEDULE & FORMAT

When do classes meet?

Moody’s Martial Arts operates once per week on Friday evenings. Class times are structured by age group and experience level. Any schedule changes are announced well in advance.

How long are classes?

Classes typically run 60–90 minutes, depending on the program and age group. This allows time for warm-up, technical instruction, drilling, application, and conditioning without rushing.

Is this a full-time school?

This is a focused, high-quality part-time program, not a drop-in activity or casual club. Our limited schedule allows for intentional instruction, small class sizes, and a strong community environment.

ENROLLMENT & COMMITMENT

Are there contracts?

No. There are no long-term contracts. Students may cancel at any time by logging into their account on our website.

Can I cancel my program at any time?

Yes. You may log in to your account on our website and cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellations must be completed before the next billing date to avoid future charges.

What payment options are available?

We offer several flexible payment options:

Single Class

  • Covers one class (one credit)

  • Non-refundable once the class has been attended

  • Ideal for trials or occasional training

Monthly Plan

  • Paid in full each month

  • Includes 4 classes (credits) per month

  • One month equals four classes, regardless of calendar dates

  • The paid month is non-refundable

  • Monthly subscription may be cancelled at any time before the next billing date

Yearly Program

  • Paid in full

  • Includes 52 classes (credits)

  • Non-refundable

  • Recommended for committed students pursuing long-term mastery and black belt progression

What if I miss a class or there is a cancellation?

We operate on a class-based credit system, not a strict calendar-month system.

  • If a student misses a class, the class credit remains available

  • If Moody’s Martial Arts cancels a class for any reason, students will always be entitled to their full number of purchased classes

  • Class credits may be used outside of the original month if needed

  • Makeup classes will be offered if there is a cancellation on either the student’s or the program’s end

Our priority is ensuring every student receives the full value of the classes they have paid for.

AGE GROUPS & ELIGIBILITY

What ages do you accept?

We offer programs for:

  • Children

  • Teens

  • Adults

  • Seniors

Age placement is based on maturity, attention span, and safety considerations, not just chronological age.

Do parents and adults train, too?

Yes. Adults are encouraged to train, whether as beginners or experienced martial artists. Martial arts is a lifelong practice, not limited by age.

Do you offer family training options?

Yes. Families may train together in designated classes where appropriate, reinforcing shared goals, accountability, and bonding.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Do I need prior martial arts experience?

No experience is required. Beginners are welcome and taught fundamentals step-by-step.

What if I trained before, years ago?

Returning students are common. We assess prior experience and place students appropriately to ensure success and safety.

What if I have trained in another martial art?

Cross-training experience is welcomed. Rank placement is evaluated individually based on technical proficiency, not time served.

UNIFORMS & EQUIPMENT

Is a uniform required?

A uniform is not required for the first class. After the first class, students will need an official uniform (dobok). The white belt is included in tuition.

What equipment is needed?

At the beginner level:

  • Uniform

  • Water bottle

Protective gear may be introduced later, depending on rank and activity.

Do you sell equipment on-site?

Yes, required uniforms and approved equipment are made available through the program.

SAFETY & SUPERVISION

Is martial arts safe?

When taught properly, martial arts is extremely safe. We emphasize:

  • Controlled techniques

  • Progressive training intensity

  • Proper warm-ups and conditioning

  • Instructor supervision at all times

Injury risk is comparable to or lower than most youth sports.

How do you handle sparring?

Sparring is age-appropriate, controlled, and supervised. Beginners focus on fundamentals before contact is introduced. Sparring safety equipment is used when making contact.

What about students with special needs or concerns?

We strive to accommodate students whenever possible. Please contact us to discuss specific needs so we can ensure a positive experience.

BELTS, RANKING & PROGRESSION

How does the belt system work?

Students progress through colored belt ranks toward the black belt. Each belt represents:

  • Technical improvement

  • Increased responsibility

  • Personal growth

Progression is earned, not given. If on target, the student should test 3 times a year.

How long does it take to earn a black belt?

A black belt is not a fixed timeline. It typically takes several years of consistent training, effort, and maturity.

Are belt tests required?

Evaluations are conducted periodically to assess readiness. Students must demonstrate skill, knowledge, and discipline to advance.

PARENT FAQ

Is this program appropriate for my child?

If your child can follow basic directions, participate safely in group activity, and is ready for structured instruction, they can succeed here. We focus on confidence, discipline, and skill development in a positive environment.

How do you handle discipline and behavior?

We coach students firmly and positively. Expectations are clear, and students are guided back to appropriate behavior. If a student is unsafe or persistently disruptive, we will involve the parent or guardian and may recommend a pause or different program fit.

What will my child learn first?

Beginners start with:

  • Safety rules and dojang etiquette

  • Stances and movement fundamentals

  • Basic blocks, punches, and kicks

  • Balance, coordination, and listening skills

As they progress, they add forms, controlled sparring fundamentals, self-defense applications, and breaking technique.

Will martial arts make my child aggressive?

Properly taught martial arts tends to reduce aggression. Students learn self-control, respect, and responsible use of skill. We emphasize discipline and de-escalation.

Do you teach bully prevention and self-defense?

Yes. We teach practical awareness, confidence, boundary-setting, and age-appropriate self-defense fundamentals. The goal is to build a calm, capable student who can avoid trouble when possible.

Can parents watch class?

Yes, when space allows. We encourage families to support their student, while allowing the instructor to maintain focus and structure during instruction.

What if my child misses a Friday class?

We understand family schedules. Because we operate on class credits, missed classes can be made up so your child receives the number of classes you purchased.
